10 people capsized by tourist ships capsized in China during a sudden storm – Country

State media said on Monday that four ships tilted in a sudden storm at a tourist attraction in southwestern China, killing 10 people.

State broadcaster CCTV said strong winds hit Jizhou province's scenic spots late Sunday afternoon, with more than 80 people falling into the river.

The initial report said the two tourist ships had been tilted, but state media said Monday that four ships were involved. CCTV said the other two ships had no passengers and seven crew members were able to save themselves.

Jizhou's mountains and rivers are a major tourist attraction, with many Chinese travelling on a five-day national holiday that ends on Monday.

Xinhua News Agency officials said on Sunday that Chinese President Xi Jinping called for all efforts to find missing and care for injured people. 70 people were taken to the hospital, most of whom were slightly injured.

Xi Jinping noted a series of fatal accidents recently, highlighting the importance of busyness at tourist attractions, large public places and residential communities, and people returning at the end of the big holiday.

CCTV said the capsized ship had a maximum capacity of about 40 people and was not overloaded.

A witness told the state-owned Beijing news that deep in the waters, but some have managed to swim safely. But a storm suddenly came, and thick mist covered the surface of the river.
