Cowboy athlete kills at least 11 people in India after cricket victory

After a stampede outside a cricket stadium in Bangalore, South Karnataka state, India, 11 people were killed, scored higher and injured, enthusiastic fans gathered to celebrate the city's team's first Indian Premier League title.
Thousands of people gathered on Wednesday to celebrate Tuesday's victory in the IPL final due to the arrival of Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The state's chief minister confirmed 11 deaths and 33 injuries in a cowboy performance Wednesday evening. Officials say all injured are out of danger.

He promised compensation for the victims’ families, adding that before the deadly stampede, “preventive measures were taken by not allowing victory parades” because of fears of a surge in the crowd.
“People even broke the gates of the stadium,” Siddaramaiah told local media. “No one expected such a large crowd.”
Bangalore police earlier issued a warning saying they did not approve the victory parade as thousands of fans continued to gather.
Video footage shot outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium in the heart of the city shows a crowd gathering at the entrance, so large that dozens of fans were seen climbing over walls and fences.
Indian TV Channel reported on Wednesday that the crowd went forward violently, crushing several people, including at least one child.

Siddaramaiah told the press conference that more than 200,000 people entered the stadium, which had a capacity of only 32,000.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi calls the incident “Absolutely intoxicating” On X.
“My thoughts are with all the people who have lost their loved ones in this tragic moment,” the Prime Minister's Office tweeted.
“I pray for those injured to recover quickly.”
Bengaluru Cricket Team includes star player and fan favorite Virat Kohli, who recently announced his retirement from the International Test cricket match, defeated the Punjab Kings in the Indian Cricket League final on Tuesday.
This is the first IPL title for Royal Challengers Bengaluru after three failed attempts.
