A-HA singer Morten Harcet is diagnosed with Parkinson's disease

Morten Harket, lead singer of Norwegian band A-ha Catch me The track remains one of the most popular songs of the 1980s, and said Wednesday that he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.

Harket, 65, in a statement on the band's website and confirmed by record label Sony Music, said he had undergone several rounds of brain surgery and was managing the symptoms of the disease.

Parkinson's leads to worsening of the brain's nervous system, causing tremors and other symptoms to gradually worsen over time. The disease can be treated with surgery and medication, but cannot be cured.

Harket said he had undergone a nervous system program last year, implanting electrodes into the brain, which relieved symptoms.

Harket said he is known for his wide range of voices and he doesn't know if he will be able to perform again.

“I can accept the diagnosis without a doubt,” he said, adding that it is difficult to balance the side effects of medication and treatment.

“I'm trying to prevent my entire system from fading,” Harket said.
