Major changes to Disneyland: “Monsters” have been eliminated; “Avatar”

Say goodbye to Moncrore Island and say hello to Pandora – Disneyland Resort is closing its “monster, company”. Cycling makes room for the new “Avatar” experience inspired by the ocean of James Cameron’s Sci-Fi World.
Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley go to rescue! Disney announced Thursday that it will close in early 2026, allowing construction on “Avatar”-themed land at Disneyland California Resort's Hollywood blocks.
Disney Animal Kingdom, Florida, rides with the theme of “Avatar” are based on Cameron’s first “Avatar” movie, while the new Anaheim experience revolves around “Avatar: The Way of Water” Pandora.
Imagineers announced the “apture” destination at a fan conference for the first time last summer, describing it in a true Disney way as “a vibrant, intense and emotional experience on a large scale.”
Official details on what attraction will require and the construction schedule is preserved.
The conceptual image shared on the Disney Parks blog shows guests a boat traversing a bioluminescent lagoon and encounters a giant whale-like creature called a Tulkun jumping from the ocean, suggesting a possible ride on a water-based ride.
Close “Monsters, Company” Ride opened in 2006, marking the end of the era of Pixar Classic fans. The family-friendly ride brings guests a fast-paced journey through the streets of Monstropolis, recreating the 2001 movie movie as guests race to help monsters Mike and Sulley rescue their human friend boo.
In addition to creating a “apt” experience, the resort is committed to new “coco” themed attractions, two new “Avengers” attractions and a parking structure.
The change in Disneyland is the attraction of “Cocoa” with “Cocoa” as the theme.

Disney announced Thursday that the construction of the “Coco” adventure is scheduled to begin in the fall.
“The attractions will be full of characters and music!” Disney said in a blog post, “This marks the first 'coco' ride in Disney Parks! ”
There is no timetable to build attractions on the Avengers campus of Disneyland California Adventure.
The new parking structure will be built on the east side of Disneyland Resort and offers about 6,000 parking spaces as well as a shuttle and ride area. A pedestrian bridge will be added to connect the port boulevard to the transport center.
“This is just the beginning of the exciting growth of Disneyland Resort,” Disney said in a blog post. “We look forward to sharing more about all of these projects in the future.”
