India's Modi attends Canada's G7 Leaders' Summit this month – Country

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he will attend the upcoming G7 Leaders' Summit in Kananaskis later this month, thanking Prime Minister Mark Carney for his invitation.
Modi has personally attended four G7 summits since 2019, and actually participated in the fifth during the 19th pandemic.
“I'm glad to receive a call from Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney,” Modi said in an article on X.
“Congratulations on his recent election victory and thanks for his invitation to the G7 summit in Kanaskis later this month.”
The Prime Minister's Office confirmed that during the reading, the call between the two leaders was invited, noting that the two agreed to keep in touch and looked forward to meeting at the summit.
The readers said the two also discussed the relationship between Canada and India and agreed to “continue law enforcement dialogue and discussion on addressing security issues.”

But Modi's attendance is amid growing concerns of foreign intervention and a 2023 investigation into the killing of a Sikh separatist leader in British Columbia, former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau publicly stated that it was done by “a proxy for the Indian government.”

In October 2024, members of the parliamentary committee called for an emergency meeting on allegations of foreign intervention in India after six Indian diplomats and consular officials were fired.
This deportation is “related to the targeted campaign of agents related to the Indian government to target Canadian citizens”.
Tensions put members of Canadian Indian diaspora on the edge, with families and students expressing concerns about travel if the conflict escalates into visa suspension.
India has long denied its involvement in the Nijjar killing and accused Trudeau of pursuing a “political agenda.”
