Trump says decisions on the Fed chair will soon emerge

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Donald Trump said Friday that the next Fed chairman will make a decision soon, adding that a good Fed president will lower interest rates.

“It will come out soon,” Trump told Air Force One reporter.

When asked specifically about former Fed Governor Kevin Warsh, Trump said: “He has a very high mindset about him.” The war is considered the leader in Trump becoming the next Fed chairman.

Trump said earlier Friday that the Fed should lower interest rates by a percentage point, reiterating his view that Chairman Jerome Powell is too slow to reduce borrowing costs.

The president has repeatedly condemned Powell for not reducing the rates as he wishes. The two met face to face for the first time last week, and Trump told Powell that he had failed to make a “mistake” by lowering interest rates.
