Israeli attack kills head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard

Iranian news agency Tasnim believes Major General Hossein Salami, commander of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard (IRGC), was killed in an Israeli attack.

The agency said IRGC Commander-in-Chief Salami was killed in an attack on the IRGC Senior Command headquarters. He is considered one of the most powerful people in the Islamic Republic.

Chief of General Staff Mohammad Bagheri was also attacked, according to unconfirmed reports from Iranian media.

However, the National News Agency IRNA said he was not hurt and was located in the command center.

But Tasnim confirmed the killing of two prominent nuclear scientists. According to the news agency, physics professor Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi and former nuclear director Fereydoun Abbasi were killed in the attack.

The IRGC is an elite military force of Iran, much stronger than traditional armed forces. Over the past few decades, it has not only been severely militarized, but has also expanded its social and economic impact.

Today, it is considered an economic powerhouse, owning stakes in industries including hotel chains and airlines.
