Trump is optimistic about Israel-Iran deal as state trade air strikes

President Donald Trump said on Sunday that Israel and Iran sometimes “must fight it” while expressing optimism about a deal as the two countries continue air strikes as they fear wider conflicts in the Middle East.

Trump is preparing to board Air Force One for Canada for the G7 summit in Alberta when he was asked about his efforts to help clear tensions between Israel and Iran.

“Well, I hope there will be an agreement,” Trump said. “I think it's time to make an agreement and we'll see what happens. But sometimes they have to fight. But we'll see what happens. I think there's a very likely deal.”

Last week, Israel launched air strikes in Iran's nuclear facilities and military buildings, killing dozens of people. Israel said the operation was necessary to stop Iran's biggest opponent from moving closer to the construction of atomic weapons.

Iran canceled the sixth round of nuclear negotiations planned in Oman after Israel strikes against Tehran.

The attack prompted the Islamic Republic to retaliate against a wave of missile strikes across Israel.

At the same time, Israel strikes against surface-to-ground missile sites in central Iran, the IDF said.

Earlier, the Israeli Air Force and Navy successfully intercepted more than 100 driverless cars (UAVs), carried out ongoing air strikes from Iran, and there were no reports of the fallen drones in Israeli territory.
