Erick in the Eastern Pacific is expected to strengthen quickly and form a hurricane to Mexico

Although the Atlantic Ocean has been calm, the Eastern Pacific has started quickly. The fifth storm of the season is historically July 23, based on the 1991-2020 average, so Erick's arrival is more than a month ahead of schedule.

The peak impact is expected on Thursday in most of Mexico's southwestern coast. The rain belt has already rotated in eastern Mexico, Guatemala and parts of El Salvador.

– Trendy tracks, wind influence: The relatively parallel paths of Erick related to the Mexican coastline make it difficult to determine the exact location of the login. This makes a difference when it comes to which locations will see the worst impact of storm surges and wind damage in parts of Oaxaca and Guerrero. Overall, these threats will be the biggest threats near and east on the central shore (most likely east of Acapulco).

Threats of wider rain: The forecast is that the largest 8 to 16 inches in Oaxaca and Guerrero are up to 20 inches. Life-threatening flash floods may be possible, and mudslides are a threat to the mountainous areas near the coast.
