Satellite image captures decades-old American-made F-5 jets at Iranian air force base and provides snapshots of Tehran's retro air force

New satellite images taken at Iran’s Air Force Base show some decades-made F-5 fighters, and take a look at Tehran’s outdated air force.

The photo, taken by US commercial satellite imaging company Maxar Technologies on Tuesday and obtained by commercial insiders obtained from Israel's strike on Iran's military assets, showed six F-5 alerts and was scattered around Dezful Airbase in western Iran.

The base does not appear to be a target for Israel, which has been launching air strikes on Iran's nuclear and military facilities over the past six days. The enhanced bombing campaign caused widespread damage nationwide and killed many senior commanders.

Northrop Corporation, an American aircraft manufacturer, has made several variants of the F-5 supersonic fighter. The F-5 made its first flight in the late 1950s and was introduced over the next decade.

The United States purchased thousands of these aircraft for use by allies. Once an ally of the United States, Iran acquired the F-5A/B Freedom Fighter and F-5E/F Tiger IIS in the 1960s and 1970s, established the Air Force before the Iranian Revolution in 1979, and established a huge relationship between the two countries, ending logistics, maintenance, maintenance and technical support.

It is estimated that Iran has dozens of F-5s in service in recent years, and many of the initially purchased fighter jets that have not operated or have disposed of strains that maintain the aircraft for a long time. The U.S. military, especially the Air Force and Navy, still uses jets for training purposes, although not for active combat operations.

Iran's air force is outdated and outdated due to international sanctions and other embargoes that have prevented the country from accessing more high-tech weapons, but are also key components and parts. In addition to the F-5, Tehran operates other aging aircraft, including the Soviet-era SU-24 and Mig-29, as well as the US-made F-14 Tomcat.

An Iranian official said earlier this year that Tehran bought a new Su-35 aircraft from Russia, but it is not clear how many, if any, have been delivered.

The IDF said on Monday it bombed two F-14s at the main airport in Tehran, marking what it called “another strategic weapon that lost the enemy.” The IDF also confirmed on Wednesday that it attacked five Iranian attack helicopters.

Iran has limited air power and has invested heavily in developing a large number of ballistic missiles and attack drones.

In contrast, the Israeli Air Force operates newer, more powerful aircraft such as the F-35i stealth fighter and older but efficient F-16 and F-15 jets. Israeli officials said the country's mix of fourth-generation fighters and fifth-generation fighters after beating air defense has achieved air superiority compared to Iranian occupation, including Tehran.

In the battle between Israel and Iran, another image taken by Maxar on Tuesday showed that it appeared to be Iran parked on a trailer in a taxi lane in Dezful and several attack drones nearby Iran.

Iran used the infamous Shah 136 men in the ongoing retaliation attack on Israel. Tehran also sent many of these drones to Russia, also described as wandering ammunition, which used them to strike on Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure. Russia also produced its own domestic version of Shahed-136, which is increasingly a problem for Ukraine.

Israeli fighter jets have launched hundreds of air strikes throughout Iran since Friday, targeting the country's nuclear program, with its leading scientists, senior commanders, air defense, missile launchers, weapons production sites, bases and other military infrastructure.

In turn, Iran retaliates against Israel by launching about 400 ballistic missiles and hundreds of drones.
