It's been more than two years since the two tours announced their participation in negotiations – but it didn't end up being achieved.

Rolapp is speculated to take over Roger Goodell's role, admitting he “has a lot to learn”, but two-time Major Champion Xander Schauffele told Fox News Digital that he was excited about what was about to happen shortly after the news broke out.

“I think the search committee did a very thorough search to find the best candidates. He seemed very excited about the opportunity for 22 years working on the NFL's business side,” Schauffele told Fox News Digital. “He saw a lot of potential that the tour could be done, and he wanted to stick to tradition and legacy, but he wouldn't get stuck in that way, either.

Schauffele's view of Rolapp and tradition is not accidental. In an open letter to social media, Ropp said his “purpose as CEO is to honor the tradition of golf, but not be bound by them.”

“I’m honored to play the role of CEO of the PGA Tour. Golf is one of the deepest history and many of the most timeless traditions of all sports,” said Rollap. “History and these traditions have inspired generations of players and fans, creating a game and a tour that makes love all over the world love. At the same time, professional golf is constantly evolving, and the way fans consume sports is constantly evolving.

Over the past few years, this tour has made meaningful progress in addressing these changes – from creating more opportunities to improving the competitive structure and enhancing the experience for fans. However, there is still a big job to be done and incredible opportunities are still future. From creating the best quality golf products, these high-quality golf products include the best players in the world, including my board members and fans, worked hard to master the board members and delivered efforts on my board.

It would be a big change for Rolapp, from two decades with the 32 team owner leagues to an organization with nearly 200 independent players.

“The players have this tour – it's their tour,” Rollap said. “With that being said – we think they know things that are good for fans are good for tours, too. There are also benefits to being in the sports business. Sometimes, it's not that complicated. If you think it's best for fans, it's usually everyone involved. So I think we're going to keep that mentality here.”
