Republican senators suggest it's time to avoid icy sanctuary city

Republican senators told Fox News that they were tired of liberal sanctuary cities like Los Angeles and trying to hinder federal immigration authorities from enforcing the law, and some suggested it was time for the legislature to intervene in funding.

“We have to say, 'Enough,'” said Senator Katie Britt of R-Ala. “I don't understand why we continue to provide federal funding to people who don't comply with federal laws. I mean, think about it. It's simple.”

“There's no problem with millions of illegal immigrants entering our borders over the past four years,” Britt said in a conversation with Fox News digitizing in the Senate office building lobby.

“What the sanctuary city says is, ‘You can commit crimes, we will allow violations, we won’t hand you over to federal authorities.” I mean, given that this is absolutely insanity, we will no longer support it. ” she said.

“We have achieved this bad behavior,” said Senator Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio. “Look, the reality is to use the term for my colleagues, 'No one is beyond the law.' So if you have a mayor or county magistrate or governor, whatever you want to say, it's not complying with federal law, it's totally unacceptable.

“I'm calling for this on the campaign, and I think all Republicans should stick with it,” he added.

Meanwhile, R-FLA. Senator Rick Scott simply told Fox News Digital that Sanctuary City prevented immigrants “shouldn’t” get federal funds.

“I mean, first of all, if you're a sanctuary city, you're not doing the right thing for your citizens. You're not making sure they're safe,” Scott said. “I think we're really upset that we don't have an effective immigration system. Someone wants to come to our country legally and work and go home in our country. That's what we should focus on, how we improve that, but make sure if you don't review, you shouldn't be in this country.”

On the other side of the aisle, Senator Tim Kane (D-Va).

“I don't have any comments on this, I'm now focused on what's going on in the Middle East,” Senator I-Maine said to Fox News Digital.

Senator Bill Cassidy, R-La. Say: “I think everyone should abide by the law” or “accept the consequences.”

Cassidy added: “I can't tell you that I legally know what the consequences of a community's intentional disobedience to the federal government. But whatever those consequences are, if a community makes a decision, then it has to bear the consequences.”

R-tenn. Senator Roger Marshall said the asylum policy “led these riots in many ways, and when our ice agents were in trouble, the LA police were reluctant to help.”

“What we can't tolerate is that local officials are blocking ice officers' work, and that's exactly what's happening in some of these sanctuary cities,” Marshall said. “So if that means the power of the wallet, then that's it. But no matter what we do, President Trump takes the oath to protect and defend the Constitution to ensure that we all are safe.”
