Mitsubishi Motors' new Grandis SUV to debut in Europe

Mitsubishi Motors Europe, a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Motors, will launch the all-new Grandis compact sports car (SUV) in Europe, marking the introduction of the spending vehicles under the name into the market within 13 years.

The vehicle will be produced at Renault’s Spanish Valladolid plant, which is based on the Public Module Family (CMF)-B platform, and is provided on an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) basis by Mitsubishi Motors’ alliance partner Renault.

The lineup includes mild hybrid (MHEV) and hybrid EV (HEV) models.

The Grandis name means “large and impressive” in Latin, with 19-inch alloy wheels, a two-row, five-seat interior trim with adjustable rear seats and an expandable luggage area.

The SUV's MHEV powertrain can be equipped with a 1.3-liter direct fuel-injected gasoline turbine engine and HEV options, and offers a combined output of 115kW.

The HEV model combines a four-cylinder 1.8-liter petrol engine with two electric motors, a motor box, involving two built-in inverters and converters.

Additionally, it includes a 1.4 kWh (kWh) lithium-ion towing battery and a smart multi-mode transmission.

It also offers three driving modes, including the EV mode for electric-only driving, and the electronic save mode activated when the driver selects.

Grandis comes with a 10.4-inch smartphone link display audio system and advanced connectivity features, including built-in Google.

Mitsubishi Electric also integrates advanced driver assistance systems (ADA) and active safety systems in the new Grandis.

“After the launch of Outlander Phev last year, we launched the dynamic shield design of Mitsubishi Motors with the brand new Grandis, we are strengthening the lineup in the European market.

“With the additional launch of the Eclipse Cross Bev model, we will offer a wide variety of electric vehicles (HEV, PHEV and BEV) to meet the various needs of our customers.”

Recently, the company reported that global production grew by 4.4% to 75,350 units in May, from 72,199 units in the same month of 2024.
