Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke on Thursday, partly in the context of partially stopping the delivery of US weapons to Ukraine, calling on the EU to strengthen its own defense industry.
“We need to build Europe's own defense industry so that Russia can't beat us in any region,” Zelensky said at dinner.
He said the delivery of weapons to Ukraine to Ukraine, as well as the new strict sanctions on Russia, is crucial to European security.
Zelensky said it had to be designed in a way that Moscow no longer received anything that could be used for weapon production.
With Western support, Ukraine has been defending itself for more than three years. Despite the unprecedented sanctions, Russia continues to fight its neighbors with ruthless severity, controlling nearly one-fifth of Ukrainian territory, including the Crimean Peninsula, which was annexed in 2014.
With the potential evacuation of U.S.-backed evacuation, Kiev has the risk of losing its major arms suppliers.
