Elon Musk is starting his own party.
On Saturday, July 5, Tesla founder and former adviser to former Donald Trump announced on X that he had formed the American Party. The news comes the day after 54-year-old Musk posted a message on the platform: “Independence Day is asking if you want to be independent from a two-party system (some would say Uniparty) system! Should we create American parties?”
The poll received more than 1.2 million votes, resulting in 65.4% of respondents voting “yes”.
He announced X posts on Saturday, announcing the launch of the U.S. party.
“In a 2-to-1 ratio, you want a new party and you will have it!” he wrote. “When bankruptcy with waste and grafting, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the American Party is formed to restore you to freedom.”
Also on Saturday, Musk rescheduled a meme with images with two-headed snakes titled “End One-sided.” In response, Musk simply wrote: “Yes.”
On Monday, June 30, Musk vowed that if the Republican-controlled Congress passed Trump's “big and beautiful bill” (the Tesla CEO repeatedly criticized that he would establish and fund the “American Party” to expel Republican lawmakers.
He wrote in an article on X: “If this crazy spending bill passes the next day, it will be composed on the next day.

Musk previously proposed the idea of forming a third party earlier this month. On June 5, the billionaire posted a poll on X, asking the question: “Is it time to build a new party in the United States that actually represents 80% of the middle?”

Musk's relationship with Trump was blown up after Musk left the administration on May 30 as tech billionaires slammed the legislation as a reversal of his efforts to cut government spending.
The two then began insulting each other through social media on June 5, and have had bad relationships ever since.
