Authorities say

Authorities say up to 15 workers could be trapped underground after the collapse of the industrial tunnel in Wilmington at about 8 p.m. Wednesday.

More than 100 personnel from the Los Angeles Fire Department were assigned to the incident at 1701 Figueroa Street, the only entrance point for the tunnel.

According to LAFD, workers may be trapped six miles south of the visiting point.

Search and rescue teams have been dispatched to the site, specially trained, certified and equipped to handle restricted space tunnel rescue.

TV news footage showed first responders gathered around the wide axis of the incident site.
