Ostro breaks world record in improving health AI literacy

Ostrow's efforts to improve the country's less-than-stellar health literacy earned the startup this week's Guinness World Record.

The company’s virtual course currently holds the record for the most users of an online course on artificial intelligence and health literacy in one day — 698 people completed the course in 24 hours. Ostro, which sells AI-powered engagement technology to life sciences companies, launched the 30-minute course in partnership with Havas Health Network, a healthcare-focused marketing agency.

Ostro co-founder and president Ahmed Elsayyad said the course aims to bridge the gap between artificial intelligence experts and healthcare professionals. AI experts can learn more about health literacy in healthcare, and healthcare professionals can better understand the applications of AI in their fields.

Elsayyad noted that the course addresses common questions in both communities, including why generative AI models can sometimes be misleading.

“I heard people say afterward, ‘I finally get this — it’s important to be careful with generative AI,’ because unlike other use cases, in healthcare you don’t want random Reddit users replying to your question,” he said.

The course also introduces healthcare and life sciences professionals to artificial intelligence applications and compliance, as well as the importance of safeguarding human decision-making.

Chase Feiger, CEO and other co-founder of Ostro, describes the course as a roadmap that helps people break down technical concepts and complex regulatory rules into easy-to-understand pieces.

“The course is broken down into a few different topics. There's a whole section on compliance, there's a whole section on people in the loop. And how do you actually integrate AI with people in the loop? So there's a couple of different sections on how to actually implement and launch, given the existing infrastructure and standards in the life sciences space. It's very specific and I think some parts may resonate more with some people than others,” he explained.

The Guinness World Record may have been set, but Feige said Osterloh hopes the course will continue to attract new users and that other AI companies will follow suit in efforts to improve health and AI literacy.
