A U.S. Army wife, stationed in Fort Eisenhower, Georgia, awaits verdict after sanctioning the 2023 murder of her baby son, who was found stabbed to death in a shower curtain.

April Evalyn Short, 31, of Fort Eisenhower, said he admitted to second-degree murder, according to a statement from Tara M. Lyons.

According to Lyons, Short will be sentenced to 20 years in prison as part of a negotiating a plea deal and subject to serious financial fines and five years of oversight after his release. There is no parole in the federal system.

Court documents show that on the morning of November 15, 2023, her husband, U.S. Army Staff Sgt., was sent in Fort Eisenhower, a series of ominous words containing biblical references.

According to the documents, he was worried about the mysterious information and went home on his post and found their 11-month-old baby bleeding from his neck, wrapped in a shower curtain in the bathtub.

The boy was later pronounced dead at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center.

According to court documents, the couple's other two children, 11 and 6, were in a nearby bedroom at the time of the killing, although Short allegedly told them: “Don't go into the bathroom because it could be really horrible.”

According to the autopsy report, Colonel Dori Mitchell Franco, a U.S. Army Doctor, determined that the baby was stabbed in the neck by two different knives and slashed several times.

Short allegedly told authorities after her arrest that the first knife was too dark and needed a second weapon, according to court documents.
