Trump officials freeze Cornell $1 billion, with the Northwest $790 million

The Trump administration has frozen $1 billion in Cornell University, and the Northwest has $790 million in a civil rights investigation into two schools, two administration officials said.

Officials said the suspension involved grants and contracts with the sectors of agriculture, defense, education and health and human services.

The moves are the latest in a swift escalating campaign targeting elite universities in the country, which has resulted in more than $3.3 billion in federal funds being suspended or cancelled. Other schools that freeze funds include Brown, Columbia, Harvard, Pennsylvania and Princeton.

Representatives for Cornell and Northwestern did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
