South Carolina school bus flips over the highway while returning from a field trip

A school bus carrying nearly thirty middle school students blew the tires and flipped on a South Carolina highway when he returned on a field trip outside Charlotte, North Carolina.

Authorities confirmed that the crash occurred on the left and right, on the south side of Interstate 77, Chester County near Exit 55, involving a Lexington County School District 2 school bus that took students and adults away from Pine Ridge Middle School.

One of the three buses returned from the field trip exploded, causing the passenger to crash and injured. According to officials, the bus had three adults and about 35 students, with a total of 18 patients.

The sheriff's office said traffic is expected to be blocked for “long time.”

EMS is on site with law enforcement agencies and school staff.

According to the district, first responders are evaluating everyone at the site and “some” students are being taken to the hospital for further evaluation.

The Chester County School District posted on Facebook, noting that it helps on the scene.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.
