Lawmakers cheer on Trump's tariff plan prompts U.S. companies to open new manufacturing plants in Indiana

First on Fox: An Indiana lawmaker is celebrating a U.S. bicycle company opening a new manufacturing plant in her area after Donald Trump launched an active tariff campaign against China.
R-Ind. Rep. Erin Houchin, of the House of Rep. Erin Houchin, told Fox News Digital that Guardian Bikes started with a new investment in Seymour, Indiana to expand its operations there, which she said would create new local jobs.
“The number of job opportunities available in southern Indiana investments, which is a sum of money, staying at home, not outside the country,” Houxin said in his first interview with the subject.

The Indiana Republican now serves in his second term, saying she visited her guardian bike for the first time shortly after she was elected to Congress. At that time, they had only 16 employees, she said.
“At the time, they talked to us about their desire to be a 100% American bicycle factory,” Hosing said. “Currently, more than 97% of bikes are made outside the United States. Many bikes gather in the United States, but most of their components come from China.”
She said the guardian bikes rely exclusively on 70% of China's imports.
However, after the November 2024 election, Trump said: “They have been slowly working hard to be 100% manufacturing in the United States.”
“They just announced a $19 million financing with JPMorgan Chase to launch its first large-scale bike frame manufacturing business in the U.S.,” Hosing said. “President Trump’s trade policy makes this possible… it’s incredible that we now have a president’s focus… to level the playing field for U.S. companies.”

Hosing said the company aims to make more than one million “mass market” bikes it produces in the U.S. from over 100,000.
“That was very, very exciting,” she said.
According to the company's website, The Guardian's bikes currently also have locations in California and Pennsylvania, with two locations in Texas and Georgia this year.
The website also touts the company's plan to build its bike frames in Indiana and vows to move “quickly” towards a fully-made America.
“We believe the future of manufacturing is local, fast and data-driven. Indiana, especially Seymour, provides a perfect combination of labor, infrastructure and proximity to our customer base because we believe the future of manufacturing is local, fast and data-driven. “It’s not just about cycling, it involves building new models for U.S. manufacturing.” ”

This is because critics of Trump’s extensive tariff plan accused him of subverting the global economy.
But supporters of the plan praised it as both a powerful negotiating strategy and a long-standing solution to working abroad.

The cornerstone of Trump's policy is tariffs on all U.S. import plans toward additional reciprocity tariffs, which Trump announced earlier this month was revoked for countries that did not retaliate against the United States.
However, Trump imposed a 145% basic tariff on all exports from Beijing to combat the growing dependence of the U.S. in China’s manufacturing sector.
“The historic investment commitment of trillions of dollars in industry leaders, including Guardian Bicycle, now because Election Day only strengthens what President Trump has been saying: If you make your product in the U.S., you don't have to worry about tariffs.”
