Clearwater Ferry on board near the Florida Memorial Causeway

The first responder in Clearwater, Florida, announced a “mass casualties” Sunday night after a recreational ferry on dozens of passengers was hit by a ship fleeing the scene.
The Clearwater Police Department said more than 40 people were on board when another ship near the Memorial Causeway Bridge hit the Clearwater Ferry. The exact number of injuries is not known, but police said all injuries were from passengers on the ferry.
The city of Clearwater said six patients were declared a “trauma alert.” Police said two of them were “seriously injured” and said they were taken to a local hospital by a helicopter.

According to the Clairewater Police Department, Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire and Rescue are commemorating a shipbuilding site near the Causeway Bridge. (Fox 13 Tampa Bay)
As of 10:30 p.m. local time, the first responder has removed all patients and passengers from the ferry.
“Don't think anyone is missing from the ferry,” the city of Clearwater said on X.

“The fire department has announced a massive casualty incident due to the number of injuries. All local hospitals have notified. Several trauma alerts have been notified and the helicopters are transporting two more seriously injured helicopters. The pilot should avoid memorial causeways,” Clearwater police said on X.
After being hit, police said the ferry was resting in a sandbank south of the bridge.

Details of the boat that fled after hitting the ferry are not available yet.
The U.S. Coast Guard and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission are investigating the crash.
