A Wisconsin woman who has been missing for more than sixty years has been found

A cold case in Wisconsin over 60 has been resolved, involving a missing mother.

Audrey Backeberg, 82, said in a media release, the Sauk County Sheriff's Office said in a media release.

“The Sheriff's Office is now able to report that Audrey Backeberg is still alive and currently lives outside the state,” the Sheriff's Office said in a media release. “Further investigation shows that Ms. Barker's disappearance is based on her own choice, not the result of any criminal activity or foul.”

The Wisconsin Department of Justice website says Barkerberg disappeared from his family’s home on July 7, 1962. The family's nanny told authorities she and Audrey hitched the ride to Madison, Wisconsin and then took the Greyhound bus to Indianapolis, Indiana.

There, the babysitter said, she saw Audrey walking around the corner away from the bus stop for the last time. According to the Charlie Project, the mother of two never came home and never heard the sounds heard again, which introduced the cold case of missing persons.

Project Charlie says Audrey is “about 15″ married Ronald Backberg, whose marriage is in trouble and has alleged abuse.”
