During the time Alexis struggled with an unknown disease and suffered chronic pain, she also raised two children and accompanied Billy to perform at concerts around the world.

Speaking to Fox News Digital, Alexis admitted that it was “really rough” touring with Billy and her kids while dealing with symptoms of endometriosis.

Alexis continued: “So, especially in the case of kids, if you’ve ever traveled with kids and made a time zone change, that’s a crazy situation. So if you also add a situation that requires time and attention – you know, he’s working, we’re not working.

“Luckily, when he toured, we got a lot of support and it really helped.” It was big. So I'm lucky that I do have someone who can help me. You have to do this because you reach your limit. I mean, there is nothing you can do. ”

Alexis and the singer of “Piano Man” share their daughters Della, 9, and Remy, 7. Billy, who is also the father of 39-year-old daughter Alexa Ray Joel, shared with his ex-wife Christie Brinkley at the age of 71.

Alexis explained that it was a particularly challenging time because neither she nor Billy knew what caused the symptoms.

“We don't know that, I think it's the same as most of us,” she explained. “And it's difficult because I know I'm not feeling well.”

“And I also know I don't want him to tell me I'm uncomfortable,” Alexis continued with a smile. “When you deal with two little kids, your fuse is very short and your pain is painful. Every day, you don't know what your day will be like, so it's hard to plan.”

“But over time, he was very supportive,” she added. “So the place I left to pick me up in that time made up my deficit. We've been researching – he would email me like, like, 'Did you know this happen with endometriosis?'”

“I don’t think in a million years he would send me that stuff, but when you watch someone suffer, you have to pick it up.

Billy has been struggling with his health challenges over the past few months.

In March, the five-time Grammy winner shared a statement on social media announcing that he would postpone eight tours due to a “medical condition.”

“He's in a good condition,” she said. “It's funny, I just had this conversation the other day. He's going to be 76. I won't think of him that way. People won't think of him in that way, but he's. He's been doing this job nonstop for 15 years, just a recent run.”

“He worked for more than 15 years every two weeks except Kuvid,” Alexis continued. “And a lot. At 75, 76, there is a time where you can't always plan everything you need to do, you know? This is the time for these schedules. That's when you book content. You're booking this thing.

“So sometimes your health has to be prioritized and things have to be postponed,” she said. “But, in the grand scheme of things, he is a healthy person, he does a great job, he works hard to do better, do better, do what he has to do medically. So it's important that you know, we need him around, so he has to do what he has to do. I have to do what I have to do. Now he has to do what he has to do.”

“But at least I can fix his deficit right now, so that's OK.”

Alexis usually stands out, first in her health battle in an article she shared on Billy’s Instagram page during endometriosis awareness month in March.

She posted a photo of herself posing with Dr. Tamer Seckin, whom she described in the caption as her “Earth Angel.” Seckin is a New York-based gynecologist, laparoscopic surgeon and endometriosis expert who co-founded the End-Ondound American Foundation for Endometriosis (End-Ondound) in 2009 with celebrity chef Padma Lakshmi. In her post, Alexis recalls how she found Seckin and how he treated her condition.

“We all have stories of war, and I'm no exception: years of pain, misdiagnosis, failure of surgery, subsequent bleeding, and most importantly, the doctor told me I was fine,” Alexis wrote. “I ran range from your mind, 'Just have a hysterectomy.'”

She continued: “I went to the third ER out of painful pain. I was non-functional. This was the moment I just started studying the expert and everything pointed to him.”

“After one surgery, 27 lesions were removed, with less appendix, and my entire abdominal cavity was rid of this terrible disease. I am forever grateful.” “The work he did at the American Endometriosis Foundation is very important to this battle. They work to raise awareness, implement teaching in schools and continue research on the next generation. Our families support this work privately, but to commemorate the endometriosis awareness month in March, I want to do my best, I want to help my hard road, but on your own and on the planet, they are a hard road!

On May 1, Billy joined Alexis as she announced the grand opening of the Women's Health Center at the Seckin Endometriosis Center at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL). Endound and CSHL collaborate to establish a center named after Seckin. It is the first dedicated endometriosis research center among the leading basic science institutions in the United States, according to the press release.

Billy later posted photos of the event on his Instagram page and noted in the caption that the Joel Foundation, which he co-founded with Alexis, supported the end-shaped work.

It is estimated that endometriosis affects more than one in ten of the world's more than 200 million reproductive age women. Although surgery can help relieve pain from endometriosis, symptoms may eventually recover. There is currently no cure for endometriosis.
