The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department investigated Smokey Robinson after he was charged with sexual assault by four anonymous former employees.

On Thursday, the Sheriff's Department confirmed it had investigated the 85-year-old singer's allegations in a lawsuit filed last Tuesday.

“The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Special Victims Department is actively investigating criminal charges involving William Robinson aka “Smoky Robinson.” The investigation is in its early stages and we have no further comments.

“We know that the plaintiff has now filed a police report in a civil lawsuit. We are evident, what's going on here. The plaintiff has filed a police report only after filing a $50 million lawsuit.”

He continued: “This only means that the police are now required to investigate. We welcome the investigation, involving plaintiffs who continue to hide their identities, because it is a powerful thing to get in touch with the truth.”

“We are confident that Mr. Robinson did nothing wrong, a desperate attempt to damage public opinion, more media circus than the plaintiffs were able to create before,” Frost added.
