Grand jury sues Phoenix Ikner for mass shooting at Florida State University

The 20-year-old was charged with killing two people and injuring six others in a massive shooting on Florida State University campus on April 17 and being indicted by a grand jury.

Phoenix Ikner is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and seven counts of attempted murder with a gun, according to WTXL ABC 27.

Members of the grand jury reportedly described the shooting as “the worst nightmare in our community.”

More details about the mass shooting were released in the indictment, including information about FSU police driving dangerously directly towards a motorcycle.

The official was identified as Cody Poppell, and the indictment reportedly said he faced Ikner in the shooting and fired several shots at him, including one shot.

The grand jury also said Ikner stole a shotgun and .45-caliber pistol from his parents' home to intimidate the university campus.

The victims of the deceased were identified as Robert Morales and Tiru Chabba.

Chaba's family reportedly issued a statement through a lawyer after prosecution.

“Our hope is that today's court appearance will mark the first step for a family suffering from great suffering through a thorough and transparent investigation and prosecution of last month's shootings,” the statement said.

Ikner spent weeks of jaw injury in the hospital after the shooting and made his first appearance online after being released earlier this week.

He appeared before Circuit Court Judge Monique Richardson in Leon County, Florida. The judge found Ikner poor and appointed him as public defender Randall Harper.

He was held in the Wakura County Detention Center, a standard program because his stepmother was the deputy to the Leon County Sheriff.

Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell made a statement ahead of Ikner's first appearance in court.

“Anyway, especially one of such a scope, the Tallahassee Police Department has the highest commitment to justice, transparency and the security of our community,” the statement said. “We thank our detectives, officials, medical staff and partner agencies for their work that helped us bring us to this point.”
