Austrian interior minister supports Germany's stricter border control
Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard Karner expressed support for Germany's stricter border control measures during a meeting with German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt on Friday.
Last week, Germany's new government ordered border inspections with all neighboring countries, including Austria. Dobrindt also authorized turn around asylum seekers at the border, in addition to vulnerable groups such as pregnant women and children.
Austria welcomed stricter controls, pointing out the decline in illegal immigration numbers in Europe, including Austria and Germany, which Karna attributed to intensified border controls.
Dobrindt stressed that these efforts are in line with common European goals to achieve immigration policies and further reduce illegal immigration flows.
Austrian Economy Minister Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer also praised Germany's stricter immigration policies, reflecting broader support for these measures within the Austrian government.
