The mayor of Mexico City's personal secretary, consultant died in a morning ambush

Two of the mayors' top aides were shot dead in the latest attack on public officials in Latin American countries.
Municipal authorities said private secretary Ximena Guzman and consultant Jose Munoz were shot dead in an early morning ambush near Modern Central on Tuesday.
Mexico's mayor Clara Brugada condemned the murder and promised to continue her administration's “ruthless struggle against insecurity.”
“Investigation, clarification and ensuring there is no impunity is our commitment,” Brugada said in a press conference.
Mexico has the highest murder rate on Earth, mainly due to drug cartel-driven violence, but the capital is known for its relative security compared to other parts of the country.
Al Jazeera's John Holman said in a Mexico City report that 50 political murders occurred in the country in the first three months of a year, despite relatively rare murders in the capital.
“The reason for this is still unknown. But there are powerful criminal groups in the capital that competes for territory and controls profitable rackets,” Holman said.
“Politicians can get in the way you do the rest of the country.”
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, an ally of Brugada, has served as mayor of the capital, expressed condolences to the murders and said her administration will ensure “justice.”
“We show solidarity and support for the families of these two people who work in our movement,” Sheinbaum said.
“We know them, we stand with their family and we will give her [Brugada] All the support the Mexican government needs. ”
In 2020, Mexico City's security chief Omar Garcia Harfuch survived a gunman ambush, killing two of his bodyguards and a bystander.
