West Haven Senior Honor Walking Community Gathering

West Haven, Connecticut (WTNH) – The West Haven Veterans Council, the city’s Vietnam veterans members and community leaders held a ceremony of honor to recognize and remember veterans from the city at Bradley Point Park on Saturday.

The event features flag-raising, wreath-laying ceremony and 72 bricks dedicated to West Haven veterans.

More than 3,000 bricks have been installed to honor veterans who have lived and died, according to the city.

The ceremony marks the 17th phase of the Brick Veterans Honor Walk. Since November 2006, the Veterans Commission has been hosting annual events to sell bricks and dedicate them to veterans.

The bricks cost $75 and feature charcoal lettering for personalized messages.

The Brick Elder’s journey of honor has become a way for the community to express their appreciation and recognize service providers. It also reminds the community to remember veterans and their sacrifices.

“It's very important that people take the frequency of freedom for granted, and it reminds us of the sacrifices Americans have been making, and people take things like this for granted, and your freedom can be taken away.”

Applications for the Veterans Bricks Movement in 2026 are under review. For more information, you can contact the mayor's office of West Haven at 203-937-3510.
