According to letters signed by more than 800 lawyers, scholars and former judges, the UK must impose sanctions on the Israeli government and its ministers and take steps to “prevent and punish genocide”.
An open letter from Keir Starmer in Chow called on the British government to take concrete actions to prevent “serious violations of international law” committed by Israel.
“Genocide occurs in Gaza, or at least the serious risk of genocide,” the letter said.

The letter also called on the UK to confirm that it will comply with the obligations of the International Criminal Court (ICC) toward the Israeli lawsuit in Gaza.

“These lawyers know what this will be like – and because they do, they desperately want to avoid that.”
A previous open letter from a British lawyer last year said the UK is violating international law of Israeli armed forces.
