After minivan, multiple people hit a crowd celebrating Liverpool football fans

Police said a 53-year-old British man threw his minivan into a group of Liverpool football fans who were on the parade to celebrate the City's Premier League title on Monday and were arrested.

Authorities have no immediate news about how many people were injured. An air ambulance and other emergency vehicles flocked to respond to reports that several pedestrians were hit.

“It's very fast,” Harry Rashid said. “Initially, we just heard pop music, pop music, just got knocked over by the hood of the car. ”

Liverpool police are asking people not to share painful content of the incident online, but to send videos or messages directly to law enforcement.

“We will ask people not to speculate about the situation around the incident in Liverpool's downtown Water Street tonight,” the police statement said.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he is making an update on the situation and thanked the police for their quick response.

“The scene at Liverpool is shocking – my idea is all the people who are injured or affected,” Starmer said.

Thousands of Liverpool fans have participated in the team that won the Premier League this season, winning the record No. 20 top title. Liverpool's last league title was in 2020, but supporters were denied the opportunity to celebrate the trophy publicly, due to Covid-19 restrictions at the time.

Dancing fans waved scarves and flags, bravely lined up the streets in wet weather, climbing up traffic lights to admire Liverpool players, who were on two buses with the 'Ours' hanging on them.

“Local people”

The hours-long parade (a large pile of police and security around it) crawled along a 16-km route through red smoke and rain. Fireworks exploded from the Royal Liver Building in the heart of the city, appearing to mark the end of the parade.

Rashid said it stopped after the car hit the original victim, and the crowd sued the car and began smashing windows.

“But then he put his feet down again and just farmed on the rest of the people, and he kept moving forward.” “It was horrible. You hear the bumps as he crossed the people.”

Rashid said it seemed intentional, and he was shocked and incredible.

“My daughter started screaming, there were people on the ground,” he said. “They were just innocent people, just fans would love the parade.”
