Agents, some wearing unmarked cars and streetwear, are arresting Los Angeles immigrants. who are they?

Immigration arrests in Los Angeles have been headlines and the subject of legal disputes over the past few weeks, but Angelenos watches dramas on TV broadcast on TV, and their community may be on who exactly puts people in handcuffs and drags them away.

After all, some of the federal agents involved in the attack were in unmarked vehicles, without visible badges, wearing street clothes and covering their faces. Are they the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. immigration and customs law enforcement officers or Homeland Security Investigation Officers? What's the difference?

All of these federal agencies are branches of the Department of Homeland Security, which was created to combat terrorism in the United States after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Its responsibilities include responding to natural disasters, terrorism and homeland security threats, enforcing trade laws (by checking goods entering the United States), and managing the movement of people and products on the U.S. borders. Three branches of the Department of Homeland Security perform these tasks: U.S. immigration and customs enforcement, homeland security investigations, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Recently, federal agents saw clothes or badges, sporty facial coverings, and pistols on the entrance door of Dodger Stadium on Thursday.

When protesters learned of the presence of officials and displayed outside the stadium, they held signs with the words “Ice in Los Angeles”

But officials outside the stadium were actually U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents who “are very briefly unrelated to any action or enforcement” in the stadium parking lot.

Confusing?

Homeland Security officials told The New York Times in a statement that immigration officials agree when doing the operation by verbally saying it is ice or homeland security personnel. Federal agencies also said immigration agents were wearing “ice/ERO” or “Homeland Security” vests with their respective departments being named on one or both sides of their vehicles.

“When our heroic law enforcement officers operate, they obviously identified themselves as law enforcement while wearing masks to protect themselves from highly mature gangs like Tren de Aragua and MS-13, crime rings, murderers and rapists,” said Tricia McLaughlin.

So, which immigration officials are in Los Angeles and what is their purpose here?

U.S. immigration and customs enforcement

Are U.S. immigration and customs law enforcement officers in Los Angeles? Earlier this month, U.S. immigration and customs law enforcement officials raided fashion warehouses in downtown Los Angeles and arrested more than 40 immigrant workers, sparking anti-immigration protests across the county.

The website notes that ERO agents target public safety threats such as convicted undocumented immigrants, gang members and “immigrant fugitives who illegally re-enter the country after being removed from office and removed from office by federal immigration judges.”

Homeland Security Investigation

Are Homeland Security Investigation Officials in Los Angeles? Two months before immigration officials began an aggressive raid in Los Angeles, homeland security investigators participated in two arrests of suspected unauthorized persons suspected of being in the country.

In May, HSI officials raided a nightclub where 36 Chinese and Taiwanese arrested. The location of the club was not disclosed.

Officials also participated in the arrest of 12 Mexican citizens suspected of illegally in the United States after traveling from Mexico to Long Beach.

What is the mission of HSI? HSI is an agency of the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. According to the Homeland Security website, the focus of the Homeland Security investigation is on investigating crime “global, domestic and online.”

The department conducted a federal criminal investigation into the illegal movement of goods, money, drugs, weapons, and illegal technology exports and intellectual property crimes in the United States.

Officials also investigate crimes such as child exploitation, human trafficking, financial fraud and scams.

There are two other federal agencies on the street:

National Guard

Officials vowed to send at least 2,000 National Guards to Los Angeles. So far, they have primarily protected federal buildings.

It is not clear how many people are on the ground.

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals decided on Thursday to keep Los Angeles troops in the hands of the Trump administration, while California's objections filed a lawsuit in federal court.

California officials believe the National Guard is not needed.

US Marine Corps

The federal government has also deployed some U.S. Marines to Los Angeles.

The U.S. Northern Command, which is headquartered in the U.S., said the Marine Corps will work with the National Guard under the “51 Job” (designated by the military’s designated Los Angeles Force). They said the Marines, like guards, “have been trained to relegate, control of the crowd and the rules of using force.”

Air Force General Gregory Guillot told the Times earlier this month that the Marines in Los Angeles were restricted and their power was limited to defending federal property and federal personnel. He said they had no arrest power.

Local officials also object to Marines in Los Angeles
