The California Interscholastic Federation has even made changes to allow biological women to finish first place in the event that transgender athletes take their place.
Hernandez smiled and told KCRA-TV: “It's absolutely crazy. I've received a lot of hate comments, but I don't care.” “I'm a 16-year-old girl with a crazy attitude – do you think I'll care?”
According to the station, Hernandez tried to avoid the focus of attention and then revealed that athletes were identified as transgender. Hernandez finished third in the Women’s Triple Jump State Finals in 2024 before winning the game in 2025. Hernandez also won this year's women's high jump.

Hernandez called the protests “weird” and vowed to get a page from critics instead of exiting the game.

It is not clear whether new rules will be set in California next season.
