Capital RX expands to care navigation with acquisition of Amino Health

The companies announced Wednesday that pharmacy welfare manager Capital RX has acquired nursing navigation company Amine Health.
New York City-based Capital RX provides health benefits solutions to carriers, health programs, third-party administrators, employer groups and government entities. San Francisco-based Amino Health serves health programs and helps its members make decisions about providers, facilities, procedures and more.
Through the acquisition, Amino Health will become Capital RX's care navigation solution, known as Judi Care. With Judi Care, health plan members will have access to welfare hubs where they can participate in all benefits and point solutions. They will also be able to view provider cost and quality data, arrange care, and look for drug benefits. It will support about 60 million covered lives.
“Now we have a comprehensive range of services that help employers create, manage and manage their own benefits programs that go beyond pharmacy benefits and enable employers to provide us with all the necessary employer-sponsored benefits challenges,” Capital RX CEO AJ Loiacono said in an email.
He noted that with the acquisition, the company now offers pharmacy benefits services, an infrastructure that allows clients to design benefits plans and patient-oriented navigation solutions powered by Amino Health.
The terms of the transaction are not disclosed.
Amino Health CEO John Asalone is joining Capital RX as executive vice president of Judi Care. The complete amino team is also transitioning to Capital RX.
Asalone notes that the deal faces a key challenge for many employers: management point solutions.
“While some might say that employers don’t mind temporary point solutions, the root cause of the problem is not about point solutions,” he said. “Instead, it’s incredible trouble about how to manage these point solutions – making it difficult to manage the benefits of separations, knowing whether they’re using them effectively, see results and so on.
He continued: “Employers need a better underlying technology that allows them to redirect their health plans in real-time as their employees’ needs and budgets shift. I’m excited to be part of the only company in the market that can say all this and provide employers with this experience.”
By obtaining amino health, Capital RX ultimately aims to create less friction for health program members and help them navigate to the best and lowest cost care, according to Loiacono. He added that he believes the company is “put in trusted and consistent PBM to support employers and their HR leaders in streamlining the development, management and management of health programs.”
Other transparent pharmacy welfare managers include Abarca and RX for you, while other care navigation companies include Quantum Health and include Health.
