Chandler Jones, a soccer outstanding figure in San José, died at the age of 33

Local football legend Chandler “The Jet” Jones, who sets records within the scope of Bishop Torrance and Montgomery High School and San Jose State at San Jose State, died Sunday in a freeway accident in Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.

The California Highway Patrol told Mynewsla that Jones was attacked by a Toyota RAV4 in the forest of Centinela Avenue Off on Highway 90.

“We share alumni, Chandler Jones'09's alumni, and it makes us feel very sad,” Montgomery High School bishop said in a Facebook post. “Jones is an outstanding player on Bishop's football team and still holds the record of the longest kickback (97 yards) and the longest turnover recovery (98 yards).

Jones is a star receiver for San José Spartan, who continued to coach positions at his alma mater as well as at Idaho and Montreal Alouettes after a brief stint at the pro.

His former San Jose football coach Brent Brennan, who now coaches at Arizona State University, said on X that the news of Jones' death broke his heart.

“From freshman to WR, to coaching our staff, he makes @sanjosestatefb better every day,” Brennan said. “The plane is special. Love your brother.”

During the 2013 season in San Jose, Jones ranked first in the mountain meetings in each reception yard. He captured quarterback David Fales' 1,356 yards and 15 touchdowns, according to CBS Sports, who caught 79 passes, who continued to play for the Chicago Bears. Jones also ranked second in the Spartans' career rankings, second in 3,087 catch yards.

After completing his career as Spartan, Jones continued to join the practice teams of Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Indianapolis Colts and Cleveland Browns. He joined the 2015 Montreal Alouette practice team in 2015, and joined the team in 2016, and returned to St. Jos State in 2017.
