Cigna Taps aeroflow Health Virtual Nutrition Service

Health technology company Aeroflow Health has partnered with Cigna to provide virtual nutrition services to its members nationwide, the company announced Tuesday.
Aeroflow Health, based in Asheville, North Carolina, was founded in 2001 and offers a range of medical devices covered by insurance. The company has four lines: Aeroflow breasts, Aeroflow diabetes, Aeroflow Sleep and Aeroflow Urology. In addition to medical devices, it provides education and consultation. The company has partnered with more than 1,000 insurance plans.
Announced that through its partnership with Cigna, Aeroflow Health will provide Cigna members with “the CIGNA members who benefit the most from nutritional interventions”, such as new mothers, members of patients with diabetes or chronic disease. These patients will have access to registered dietitians who can develop personalized diet plans and provide tips to support their goals, such as increasing breast milk production, losing weight, reducing cholesterol or reducing the risk of heart disease.
“Nutrition services are not the benefits of the new coverage, but they are very necessary. Historically, they have been underutilized or disconnected from the care journey,” Amanda Minimi, vice president of marketing and operations for health solutions at Aeroflow Health, said in an email. “With such a strong investment in telehealth infrastructure, we believe we can now better support individuals to access and engage in these services in a convenient, personal and sustainable way. This partnership allows us to make this vision even more broad.”
Cigna members using Aeroflow’s nutrition services also have access to other medical devices covered by their insurance. This includes continuous glucose monitors, blood pressure monitors and CPAP machines.
In addition, Aeroflow is working with Cigna’s clinical, quality and member engagement teams to improve patient care, Minimi said.
“This includes integrating with care management workflows, leveraging population health insights and capturing outcome data to monitor progress and improve progress,” Minimi said. “The partnership is structured both high-profile and scalable, with the ultimate goal of providing measurable value to members, programs and the broader healthcare system.”
Minimi added that the company will track the success of this partnership through quantitative and qualitative metrics. This includes enrollment, program participation, participation in follow-up services and member reports outcomes. Aeroflow will also track emergency room visits, hospital readmissions and disease progress indicators. Additionally, it uses digital tools to monitor blood pressure and A1C levels.
“It is important that we will continue to collect feedback from patients and care teams to ensure that the program remains sensitive, effective and rooted in real life,” Minimi said. “Our goal is to create a feedback loop that drives continuous improvement while providing clear value to members and health program stakeholders.”
Other companies that provide nutrition services include Culina Health, Season Health and NoREDEDRX.
