Civilians killed near aid distribution center in northern Gaza
At least 16 people were injured in the city of Jabalia in northern Gaza, and people were reportedly killed near the humanitarian distribution center on Monday, Palestinian sources said.
Palestinian news agency WAFA reported deaths in other parts of the Gaza Strip. Several of them were women and children.
The Israeli military said it was investigating the report.
The Israeli military announced that the attack on the Palestinian Islamic organization Hamas in the coastal areas expanded after negotiations on the ceasefire initially failed to reach an agreement.
The military said that over the past 24 hours, it “expanded the ground offensive, eliminated terrorists, and destroyed the weapons trucks and numerous terrorist infrastructure above and below the ground.”
It said the Air Force also attacked dozens of targets.
Hamas-controlled health authorities said more than 5,400 Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the war a year and a half ago.
The war was triggered by the Hamas-led Israeli attack on October 7, 2023, with about 1,200 people killed, more than 250 people took hostages and kidnapped to the Gaza Strip.
Hamas: More deaths near Gaza food distribution center
Hamas said elsewhere that Israeli troops killed people near the humanitarian aid distribution center again in the Gaza attack.
The group's media office said Monday that “three hungry civilians” were killed in Rafa. According to the available information, 35 people were also injured.
The Israeli military said the soldiers wanted to prevent the approach of suspects posed a threat to them and fired a warning.
The incident occurred at night about 1 km outside the operating time of the center.
The Army was aware of the casualties and added: “Details of the incident are being thoroughly investigated.”
It stressed that the Israeli military did not prevent civilians from reaching the distribution center and said: “Hamas is doing everything possible to destroy food distribution in the Gaza Strip.”
The Hamas-controlled Interior Ministry calls on residents to resist the new distribution mechanism.
According to the Hamas Media Office, a total of 52 people have been killed in the distribution site since its opening last week.
The information of both parties cannot be independently verified.
