New York City – Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani enjoys progress and a surge in support from young voters, taking a big step towards becoming the first Muslim mayor to become the country's most populous city.
Although the Associated Press has not yet projected the winner in the New York City Mayor's primary Tuesday night, former Governor Andrew Cuomo saw the text on the wall and told supporters at an election night party that Mamdani “wind.”
Mamdani, a 33-year-old state legislator in Queens, originally from Uganda, has been in a crowded primary school field for the first three years as governor and nine other candidates, determined by a ranking-choose vote. He will be seen as a leader in the November election in the Blue City.
“Tonight was night for Congressman Mamdani, who had a great campaign,” Cuomo said in front of supporters on Tuesday. “He touched the young people, inspired them and moved them away and let them come out to vote. He did hold a highly impact campaign. I called him. I congratulated him. I applauded sincerely for his efforts.”

With informal results from the first round of votes leading Tuesday night, Cuomo told his supporters that his campaign will “conduct conversations” to help how to help Democrats and New York City move forward.
“Now, I want to look at all the numbers, when they come in, it's the choice of ranking votes for rankings, and what the numbers actually say and do. ” Cuomo added.
Cuomo movement aides said Cuomo left the door as a third-party or independent candidate in November after the former governor’s speech.
“I want to see them come in and analyze all the numbers for ranking selection votes. I will then consult with colleagues about the best ways I can help New York City, because I'm already eligible to run for mayor online in November,” Cuomo said in a statement.

The presumptive Democratic candidate cross-recognition with New York City’s auditor-general Brad Lander, who successfully tried to consolidate support for Cuomo in the voting style of ranking choice. Mamdani and Lander ran together in the weeks leading up to junior day.
According to the Election Commission ranking, their total is enough to overturn Cuomo because the voting round of rankings is in progress. Unofficial statistics Tuesday night. according to Associated Pressthe ranking selected table does not start until July 1, so the results may take some time.
Mamdani proposed to cancel fares to take New York City’s sprawling bus system, making CUNY (NYC City University) “free tuition”, freeze rent on municipal housing and provide “free childcare” for children under five, which has recently been boosted after winning the rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
A week later, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders was recognized by Progressive Champion and two-time Democratic presidential candidate runner-up.
Among the multiple candidates for the left in the primary election, Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders’ recognition helped consolidate the support of progressive voters behind Mamdani.
Once in the polls, Mamdami soared to second place in the past few months as he closed the gap with Cuomo.

Cuomo's campaign in major weeks criticized Mamdani as a “dangerous inexperienced lawmaker” while touting the former governor “managing a state and managing the crisis from Covid to Trump”.
“The mayor of New York City is the CEO of one of the largest companies in the world. It's not a job for beginners,” Cuomo said on the eve of the primary. “It's not a job…for on-the-job training. We need someone who knows what they do on the first day because your life depends on it.”
Cuomo and his campaign also targeted Mamdani's controversy and rebellion against Israel, which critics suggested involve anti-Semitism.
“We oppose the call for a global uprising, announcing an open season to the Jews. We oppose those who glorify Hamas terrorists, who are destined to kill the Jews,” Cuomo said on the eve of the main facing Mandani.

But these attacks are obviously not enough to discourage New York City voters.
Mamdani is now entering the November election, where he will face Curtis Sliwa, the founder of the Patrol for Volunteer Crime. Sliwa is the second straight election cycle and is the mayor's Republican nominee.
The current vote is also on the November ballot Mayor Eric Adams, A moderate Democrat was elected in 2021 and is running for independence. Adams abandoned his Democratic primary earlier this year as his approval ratings sink to historic lows.
Adams' poll numbers have fallen into five charges even before being indicted last year, accusing the mayor of bribery and fraud as part of an alleged “long-term” plan to profit from personal contact with foreign officials.
Mayor repeatedly makes suggestions to Trump,,,,, The Justice Department dismissed allegations of corruption earlier this year, so it is possible for Adams to engage in an illegal immigration crackdown with the Trump administration.

The main campaign for New York City mayor took place when Democrats struggled to escape the political wilderness, after last year's election, when the party lost control of the White House, Senate majority, and failed to win control of the house from the Republicans. This is because the party strives to resist Trump's exhaustive and controversial second term agenda.
Political analysts say if Cuomo wins, the main outcome will be seen as a barometer of how the Democrats move forward, and if Mamdani wins, left and right.
“A new direction for the Democratic Party is possible, and it’s the future of a dynamic candidate who attracts young and working-class voters with a platform to fight for people rather than companies,” Stephanie Taylor, co-founder of the Progressive Change Commission, said in a statement.

And noting earlier this month, endorsed by former President Bill Clinton and former three-time New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, accusing “the old Democratic defenders were built up under the auspices of billionaires, who did everything they could to beat Mamdani – they kept making mistakes – they kept making mistakes and they needed to stand out.

Before the primary, moderate Democratic groups said in the memo that they were “deeply shocked” by the prospect of Mamdani's victory.
“In such a high-profile office, Mamdani's victory will be a devastating blow to the fight to defeat Trumpism,” the group believes.
Republicans quickly targeted Mandani and Democrats.
The National Republican Congress Committee argued: “The new face of the Democratic Party has just dropped, which is directly out of the socialist nightmare.”
