Digging rumors Iranian state television said: “Tonight, the world will remember a surprise for centuries”

In June 2025, online users shared a rumor claiming that Iranian State TV announced that “tonight” would happen “tonight” “big surprise” or “big surprise”. Read a version of the so-called quote,”The world will remember for centuries tonight, which is surprising.

The rumor may have originated from the June 17 U.S. update (@tehrandefence) that appeared on the account X post. The account shows a bio-read: “Live War Update/This account is not affiliated with any government entity.” A search of X found the earliest record of the post about “surprise” about “Tonight” which was allegedly “remembered for centuries.”

The existence of the X post suggests that the announcement of the Iranian state television station may be wrong. However, SNOPES did not attach the fact-checked rating to this story, because we did not explicitly determine the truth about the matter.

SNOPES contacted the Iranian Foreign Ministry via email to ask if Iran State Television announced the news and will update this story if we learn more.

Users shared the issue as tensions escalated in the Middle East, with Iran and Israel attacking each other with missile attacks. On June 18, Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei rejected our call for surrender and warned that any U.S. military involvement would cause “irreparable damage” to them.
