Divers look for kayaks on Castaic Lake after two flips

Search and rescue missions are underway at Castaic Lake, two kayakers flipped on Sunday afternoon.
A kayaker, a woman, was rescued without injury. According to Los Angeles County Fire Captain Sheila Kelliher, another person is still missing and presumed to have drowned.
The incident took place on the first day of the three-month summer, with officials saying sleds drowning in the state.
The fire department arrived shortly before 1 p.m. about the kayak accident. At the time of publication, divers were still searching for the middle of the lake.
The identities of these two kayaks are not available yet. Kelliher could not confirm that any kayaker was wearing a life jacket, but according to the Santa Clarita Valley signal, which referenced the broadcast dispatch traffic, the rescued kayaker wore a life jacket while the missing kayak did not.

According to the State Water Safety Alliance, about 400 Californians die from drowning each year, almost half of which occur in the summers in June, July and August. Park officials urge life jackets to be used for all people who canoe, kayak, stand-up paddle boards or any other human boat.
