The law firm that hired former Vice President Kamala Harris' husband Doug Emhoff learned that Mr. Trump plans to use his power to punish his next company, four reviews.
The company Willkie Farr & Gallagher also hired top investigators from the Congressional Commission, which documented Trump's role in the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol, and a litigant who led the lawsuit that led the lead in bringing two Georgia electors to Rudolph W. Giuliani. Mr. Giuliani was found slandering the women in that case as he tried to help Trump overturn his failure in the 2020 presidential election and was ordered to pay $148 million to women.
Mr. Trump has issued executive orders against other law firms that employ people he believes are harmful to him, and it is unclear how Wilkie plans to respond to such actions.
Two other companies under executive orders have agreed to deal with Mr. Trump in exchange for his revocation or orders from criticism from those who believe they succumbed to the president's powerful strategy. Three other companies that fought Mr. Trump's orders in court have promptly approved the restrictive order.
The three judges who introduced the order said they were shocked by them and were worried that they would be unconstitutional. But Mr. Trump doesn’t seem to be in his campaign, the exact retribution he sees to the company he sees as the enemy. The president celebrated his efforts, saying more and more companies lined up to reach a deal with him.
The four briefed the discussion between the White House and the company because they did not want to be identified as a discussion that should have been kept confidential.
In January, a week after Mr. Trump was sworn in, Wilkie announced that he was hiring Mr. Emhoff.
In 2023, the company hired Tim Heaphy, who served as the chief investigative attorney for the House Choice Committee, which reviewed the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol. Mr. Heaphy conducted important interviews with many committees and often lags directly behind the parliamentarians in highly publicized hearings of the group.
Despite the company's ties to Mr. Trump's enemies, it represents Mr. Trump in one of his company's bankruptcy proceedings. The company has also successfully helped Mr. Trump’s close ally Thomas Barrack win acquittal in the 2022 federal case, representing the social media platform X, owned by presidential adviser Elon Musk.
