Related to the error of the old attack footage of the Indian Muslim Land Council

False rumors surfaced online after the Indian Parliament passed a bill to reform a large number of wealthy Muslim land-owned organizations, claiming that the chief minister of the Eastern Bihar state was under attack for supporting the legislation. But the videos of these posts depict the March 2022 incident.

“A young man from Bihar wrote the Hindi language title in a video shared on Facebook on April 4, 2025, “A young man from Bihar slapped CM Nitish Kumar in support of the WAQF Act. ”

Text with similar claims has also been overlaid on the clip, which shows a person rushing towards another man on stage before being driven away.

Similar posts, along with X on X surfaced after the Indian Parliament passed a bill, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government believes it will increase transparency to the powerful WAQF board (archived link).

There are about twenty-two Muslim land-owned organizations in the entire South Asian country, with about 900,000 acres (364,000 hectares), a multi-billion dollar property empire that makes them one of the largest landholders tied with railways and defense forces.

Opposition parties criticized the government for sacrificing “polarized politics” at the expense of 200 million Muslim minorities.

But no official report said Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is an ally of the party of Bharatiya Janata, Modi Hindu nationalist, who was slapped in the face for supporting the legislation.

“There has not been such an attack recently,” Bihar Police spokesman Rupesh Jha told AFP on April 9.

A reverse search of Google using the video's keyframes and also found that it has been posted on the X account of the Indian News Agency ANI on March 27, 2022 (Archive link).

Multiple news accounts at the time also showed the video and said the incident occurred on a show in Bakhtiarpur, Kumar’s hometown (here, here and here archive).

The Times of India quoted local police as saying that the person who attacked Kumar was mentally disabled. Bihar chief minister reportedly asked the authorities not to take action against him (archived link).
