Flashback: Biden shrugged and reported, “I know what I’m doing” as Peter Doocy puts pressure
Earlier last year, former President Joe Biden dismissed the report of special counsel Robert Hur, which sparked additional attention to his keenness, and just a few months later he interviewed his unfortunate incident on confidential documents.
Axios released an audio of Biden’s October 2023 interview with Hur on Friday. In the recording, it seems difficult for Biden to remember when his son Beau died, when he left as Vice President, President Donald Trump was elected for his first term, or why he had already classified documents that he shouldn't have.
These recordings not only show Biden’s memory mistakes, but also mutter and murmur as he talks to Hull. The transcript of the interview (conducted from October 8 to 9, 2023) was released on March 12, 2024.
In February 2024, Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy was the first to ask Biden about his mental health report.

“What the Special Attorney said in his report is that one of the reasons why you are not accused is that in his description you are a kind, older person with poor memory.”
Biden replied: “I'm kind, I'm an old man, I know what I'm doing. I'm the president, I put this country back on my feet. I don't need his advice-“
Dusey then asked Biden how bad his memory was and whether he could continue to serve as president.

Biden told him: “My memory is so bad that you can talk.”

The report from the special lawyers, in addition to the mistakes he saw in his public appearance, also amplified the pressure on Republicans who said he lacked the mental health he needed to serve as president.

Democrats and Biden's White House initially criticized Hur's report, repeatedly insisting that he was “sharp” and that special counsel was politically motivated.
Later in 2024, during Biden's re-election campaign, Democrats called on him to perform in June's presidential debate on Trump, citing his age and keenness. Biden, 82, ended his presidential campaign in July, but his term ended and his vice president, Kamala Harris, was defeated by Trump in the November election.
