Former Washington, DC teacher arrested, accused of soliciting child pornography

A former Washington, D.C. teacher was arrested by the FBI for allegedly recruiting child pornography from minors, the Justice Department said Monday.

Devonne Keith Brown, 56, who teaches health at Idea Public Charter School, is accused of soliciting child sexual abuse materials from a young girl in Prince George County, Maryland.

“Those who prey on minors seeking CSAM production are morally reprehensible and will be responsible for their heinous crimes,” said Steven Jensen, assistant director of the FBI's Washington Field Office. “The FBI remains committed to protecting our children and ridding us of scourges.”

Devonne Keith Brown, 56, a former health teacher in Washington, D.C., has been accused of recruiting child pornography from minors, the Justice Department said.

Brown was charged with one count of receiving child pornography and appeared in court on Monday. He was detained by a judge, awaiting a hearing on Thursday.

In addition to soliciting child porn, Brown also uses CashApp to send payments to minors.

According to court documents, one commented: “For snacks? More photos.”

The unidentified minor told investigators that she met a man named Joseph at a grocery store near her home.

She said the man sent her money to the ice cream through the app. Authorities said she sent him nude photos after communicating with the man on social media. The prosecutor said the man who passed by “Joseph” also sent out the secondary images of naked women and asked her to rebuild them for him.

After further investigation, authorities claimed that they also found sexual graphic images and videos in emails sent to Brown by minors.

The charter school said in a statement to FOX 5 DC that the allegations against Brown were “deeply concerned”.

“This person is no longer employed by the school,” the school said. “The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority. We are working fully with law enforcement and supporting the investigations they are conducting. Based on the information currently available to us, there is no idea to directly engage with students.”
