Germany and allies conduct large-scale military exercises on the Rhine

Military forces from four countries carried out large numbers of troops and heavy vehicles from Germany's Rhine on Saturday during the combined exercise.

German armed forces Bundeswehr said about 1,200 soldiers and 500 cars participated in the 14-day exercise.

During the “Grand Crossroads” in Kalkar, troops from 130 of the German Pioneer Bridge Battalion, Minden were strengthened by a Dutch and an Italian company.

The mission is to build the ferry with its own system to ensure waterways crossing after several days of careful preparation and reconnaissance.

The Rhine River is about 300 meters wide in Kalkar. Forces and vehicles have moved to their destination on public roads.

After the Rhine, the Weather River will conduct another planned traversal in the Hammern region of Lower Saxony in the coming days.

The government warned that onlookers should maintain a safe distance from their vehicles.
