Germany flew home, more people sitting in Israel from Amman

German citizens and close family members trapped in Israel were flew from Amman, the capital of Jordan, to Germany on another special flight on Saturday due to Iran's hostilities with Iran.

The Berlin Foreign Ministry said the special flight took off from Jordan as space over Israel remains closed.

The office wrote on X that a total of 123 Germans were able to leave the area.

In recent days, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has organized two charter flights, with 345 people on board reaching Germany through Amman Airport.

Two Luftwaffe aircraft from another 64 German citizens also landed in Germany from Israel late Friday.

To support German citizens on the ground, embassy staff are stationed at the Allenby border crossing between Jordan and Israel in Amman, as well as the Amman Airport.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there are still about 1,000 Germans in Iran and about 4,000 German nationals in Israel.

The office continues to urge all Germans to register for the Elefand crisis prevention list and keep their data up to date.

Make Iran “still difficult”

The Foreign Ministry said it was “still difficult” for the Germans to leave Iran. It has not announced any special flights currently in Iran.

It said that the border crossings to Armenia and Turkey were open and that the departure through the two countries was “in principle”.

People can also leave “in individual cases” through the border between Iran and Azerbaijan.

“Armenia, Turkey and Azerbaijan have regular commercial air traffic. Airports and airspace are open. Germans should take advantage of these opportunities to continue their journey to Germany.”

According to the information provided, overland travel also poses high risks due to the “volatile security situation” in Iran and Israel.

The Foreign Ministry said large convoys were “not an option at the moment” for security reasons, as this would require Germans from different parts of the country to gather at the agreed meeting.

“This will mean additional long-distance travel and waiting time, which creates a great risk of departure given the ongoing air strikes,” it said.

Therefore, German citizens who remain in Iran are also asked to “weight their choices” to leave the country through land without consular assistance, depending on their personal situation.

Embassy staff in Tehran have moved abroad

Public broadcaster ARD reported that the German Foreign Ministry has temporarily evacuated embassy employees from Tehran.

It said staff had been moved abroad, adding that family members had left the country. The office said the measures were similar to those taken by other countries.

The embassy in Tehran is still in operation and the country's Germans are available 24/7.

The move comes as Britain and Switzerland announced on Friday that they temporarily closed their Iranian embassy due to the conflict.
