Germany's Wadephul expresses “terror and shame” at the Holocaust Memorial
New German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul visited the Yad Vashem Memorial in Jerusalem on Sunday to express “terror and shame” about the country's responsibility for the Holocaust.
Wadephul, who took office this week, said Germany has a responsibility to “remember victims”, “respect survivors” and learn from the crimes of the Holocaust.
He placed a wreath in the memorial to commemorate the 6 million Jews killed by the Nazi regime in Germany.
“It's scary and shameful, and I stand here as the German Foreign Minister,” Vodavre said. “This place reminds the American Germans time and time again, planned by the Germans, planned by the Germans and carried out by the Germans.”
After the visit, Wadephul will hold talks with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
