Human remains found 10 months after a Texas boat capsized in Alaska

The Texas family's ship tilted nearly 10 months on the Alaska Homer coast, the human remains searched at the bottom of the bay.

In August 2024, the U.S. Coast Guard searched for the missing boatman, but no witnesses suspended it.

The U.S. Coast Guard said David and Mary Maynard of Troy and their two sons – 11-year-old Colton Maynard and 8-year-old Brantley Maynard – disappeared after carrying a 28-foot aluminum ship about 16 miles west of the U.S. Coast Guard.

Alaska soldiers said they have three private companies — Alaska’s Supporting Boat, Visual Undersea and Benthic Geosciences — to contact them to provide their professional tools to assist in the search. With their help, they were able to find the missing ship.

“In early May, the team was able to locate the ship in 180 feet of water and utilize remotely operated vehicles, which they were able to actively identify as missing ships with potential human remains on board,” Alaska soldiers reported.

Since its discovery, divers have recovered three sets of remains from the sunken ship and transported them to the state medical examiner's office for active identification and autopsy.
