Iran executed a man on Wednesday who said he worked in Israel's foreign intelligence agencies and played a role in the killing of a revolutionary defender colonel in Tehran in 2022, according to the official IRNA news agency.
The report identified the man as Mohsen Langarneshin and said he was hanged. It called him a “superior spy” of Mossad who provided “technical support” in the assassination of Colonel Hassan Sayyad Khodaei, who was shot by the gunman on a motorcycle outside his home in Tehran.
The agency said Mossad recruited Langaneshi in 2020 and met with Israeli intelligence personnel from Georgia and Nepal.
Langarneshin reportedly rented safe houses in several cities, including Isfahan, when the bomb drone targeted what Iran called a military workshop. Iran accused Israel of attacking.
Langeensin admitted it in Iran's revolutionary court, the report said.
The court was established after the Islamic Revolution in 1979 and is known for its severe punishment for those who oppose the rulers of Iranian instruments. It usually provides court-appointed attorneys and does not allow media access.
During the assassination, local media identified Khodaei as the “defender of the shrine”, referring to the Iranians fighting against the group of Extreme Islamic State in Syria and Iraq in the military force of guardian elites who oversee foreign operations.
