Israel launches a ground attack on Gaza Grand Gaza after deadly air strikes
Israel said it launched “extensive ground operations” in the Gaza Strip after a fierce air strike overnight on Sunday, reporting that it killed more than 100 people and forced the last properly functioning public hospital in the north to close.
Israeli ground forces are now part of a strengthening campaign against Hamas in the north and south of the coastal areas of Palestine, the IDF said in a statement.
The military said it has conducted a “first wave” in support of ground forces over the past week, targeting more than 670 Hamas locations, including weapons warehouses, rocket launchers and armed personnel.
“So far, the troops have eliminated dozens of terrorists,” the statement said.
The casualties in the Gaza Strip are increasing as Israel becomes more and more aggressive. On Sunday, medical staff said about 110 people died overnight and were injured until Sunday morning.
The Palestinian news agency WAFA put the death toll at 108, and he said most of the victims were women and children. The attack allegedly hit tents that sheltered displaced persons.
These accounts cannot be independently confirmed.
In response to the inquiry, the Israeli military said it was investigating the incident.
WAFA reported several deadly attacks in different areas of the coastal enclave.
There are no normal public hospitals in the north
Hamas-operated health ministry reportedly said the death toll is no longer running due to Israeli bombing near Israel.
The ministry said the fire has cut off opportunities to reach Indonesian hospitals in Beit Lahia to prevent patients, medical staff and basic supplies from reaching the facility.
With this development, it is said that all public hospitals in northern Gaza are unavailable.
The IDF has not commented on the report. It had previously accused Hamas of using hospitals to cover up military operations, accusing fighters of covering up in medical facilities and storing weapons there.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently said the acceleration campaign aims to increase pressure on Hamas and ensure the release of hostages.
Israeli authorities said the plans include capturing and possessing territory, as well as relocation of civilians from the north.
Observers fear that the new offensive – known by the military as Gideon’s chariot – will result in greater deaths in the coastal zone, and people live in disastrous conditions.
The Israeli military has been not allowed to send aid to Gaza for more than two months, accusing Hamas of reselling aid supplies to the increasingly impoverished population.
Israel says it kills Hamas leader's brother
Meanwhile, Israeli Defense Minister Katz believes that the brother of the late Hamas leader Yehya al-Sinwar may have been killed in an attack in the Gaza Strip a few days ago.
“Although there is no official confirmation, all signs indicate that Mohammed Singwar has been eliminated,” news website YNET quoted Katz as saying at the committee meeting.
Mohammed al-Sinwar is the younger brother of Yehya al-Sinwar and is believed to be the mastermind of the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel. Last October, he was killed by the Israeli military in Gaza. He became head of the Hamas armed wing after Israel killed Mohammed Deif in July.
Israeli media reported that the attack was targeted at Mohammed al-Sinwar after an Israeli attack in Khan Yunis in southern Gaza Strip on Tuesday, but officials declined to comment.
According to the hospital, several people died during the strike. The Israeli military said it had carried out “precision attacks” against Hamas terrorists in the command and control centers.
According to an unconfirmed Arab media report, the body of Mohammed Singwar was found in a tunnel in Khan Yunis. Asked on Sunday morning, the Israeli military was unable to confirm this.
